Size of my ski |

Choosing the size of your skis is not always easy as it will depend on how you intend to use them: freestyle, backcountry or freeride. So here's a little bit of advice to help you choose the right skis for you! For Freestyle, you should normally choose skis the same size (height) as you. Nevertheless, if you’re planning to use them at high speeds on the piste, or if you are a strong park rider, it is advisable to choose a slightly longer ski. For backcountry, you should choose skis that are a bit longer than you. These will be more comfortable and will help you float better in powder. For freeride, things start to get complicated. Skiers who are really at ease in this domain generally choose skis longer than themselves. Adrien Coirier, for example, is 1m75 tall and his skis are 1m91 long. An intermediate skier might choose skis slightly longer than him/her, where a beginner should usually choose skis just a smidgin’ longer. As a general rule, the bigger a ski is compared to your size: the more it will float in powder the more stable it will be at high speed the more forgiving it will be on landings the more physical it will be to ski On the other hand, the smaller a ski is compared to your size: the easier it will be to manoeuvre the lighter it will be the easier it will be to ski but it will be unstable at high speed and won’t float as well in powder Be careful, your choice of ski size should never be too extreme. For example: You are 1m80 tall and weigh 80kg. Don’t choose a 165cm freestyle ski! You are 1m65 tall and weigh 55kg. Don’t choose a 191cm freeride ski! |
